Inter Milan's French veteran midfielder Patrick Vieira faces surgery on his left thumb after injuring it in Wednesday's friendly against Chelsea at Pasadena, California, his club said Thursday.
Citing a prognosis of ligament damage the club said the extent of the injury was still being assessed and the possible need for an operation would be determined "in the coming days."
