Edson Buddle scored in the 13th minute to give the Los Angeles Galaxy a 1-0 victory over Costa Rica's Club Sport Herediano in an exhibition Tuesday night.
Herediano reached the finals of Costa Rica's spring season this year and received a berth in the 2009-10 CONCACAF Champions' League.
Buddle scored after taking a pass from Leonard Griffin, eluding two defenders and converting a 28-yard shot inside the left post.
Herediano had two chances to tie it. In the 15th minute, Leandro Barrios beat Galaxy defender Gregg Berhalter on a breakaway but fired just wide of the left post from 8 yards.
In the 82nd minute, Herediano's Andy Herron passed to Gherland McDonald on a 2-on-1 breakaway but Galaxy goalkeeper Josh Saunders blocked McDonald's shot from point-blank range 13 yards from the goal line.
Saunders made two saves for the Galaxy.
The victory was the Galaxy's second in three international exhibitions this year. Los Angeles defeated Oita Trinita from Japan but lost to South Korea's Suwon Bluewings in penalty kicks during the Pan-Pacific Classic.
